General Description
The Legal Intermediate Counsel at Lumu Technologies will provide strategic and hands-on legal support across corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters. This position is ideal for a mid-level legal professional with a strong foundation in commercial law and business operations, who also brings cross-functional experience in finance, M&A, compliance, and innovation-driven industries.
Responsibilities
- The ideal candidate combines legal expertise with business acumen, and is comfortable working in high-growth, entrepreneurial environments, managing multiple jurisdictions (including the U.S. and Latin America), and aligning legal advice with strategic business goals.
- Provide end-to-end legal support on corporate transactions, including M&A, venture financing, and international expansion.
- Draft, negotiate, and review a broad range of commercial agreements, NDAs, and strategic contracts across North America, Latin America and EMEA.
- Lead legal due diligence processes and collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance, Strategy, Compliance, Operations) on high-impact projects.
- Advise on data privacy, compliance, and risk management frameworks aligned with GDPR, cross regions regulations, and industry standards.
- Translate complex legal issues into business-oriented solutions and present recommendations to executive leadership.
- Conduct legal analysis for new market entry, regulatory trends, and cross-border operations.
- Partner with external counsel when required and manage multi-jurisdictional legal issues with efficiency.
- Support corporate governance, board matters, and internal legal operations initiatives.
- Leverage knowledge in finance and strategy to align legal advice with investor expectations and company growth goals.
- Contribute to innovation in legal processes, including legal design, contract simplification, and technology adoption in legal ops.
Required Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of legal experience in corporate/commercial law, preferably with exposure to startups, VC-backed companies, or regulated industries.
- Law degree with specialization in Commercial Law; desirable Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master in Laws (LLM).
- Demonstrated experience managing legal work in M&A, due diligence, and cross-border regulatory environments.
- Strong understanding of data privacy and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, Colombian Data Protection Law).
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth business setting.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Business-oriented mindset with proven ability to align legal advice with operational and financial strategy.
- Fluent in English and Spanish or Portuguese.
- Experience working across international markets.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
- Experience managing and coordinating the development of complex technical projects.
- Experience identifying and addressing risks or issues, and ensuring that the team is executing without barriers.
- Experience offering guidance on architectural decisions and good development practices.
- Experience coordinating with other teams and departments to facilitate smooth communication and collaboration.
- A track record of delivering successful projects.
